I Am Amazed

I see Facebook postings that I agree with 100%.  I look at who posted it and see that it is posted by someone who does not agree with me politically or theologically. But, I agree!  Then it begins to soak in that they did not mean what I had interpreted them to mean. Instead of supporting “my guy,” “position”, they were for the “other guy”, “position”.

It happens all the time.  Were they poor communicators? No! I think that the onus is on me. I tend to see what I want to see. I see the world (and your postings) through my own lens—seeing what I want/expect to see.

When we have fresh snow and it is bright and sunny the next day I find myself squinting.  Blinking. Sometimes blinded and unable to see. The view is just too bright to see clearly.  It hurts my eyes. It is difficult to see clearly and drive. I put on my sunglasses. Instantly things are better.

However,  I didn’t change the world.  I simply changed my perception of it. It is still bright and glaring. Blinding.  I am looking at it through a different darker lens so my perception of it is different.  I usually don’t care that I have also changed the colors of many things. By putting on my sunglasses I have not changed the world!  I have only made it more comfortable for me to live with.  Something to my liking. It is still a world I am trying to escape, I just don’t see it.

I believe that is often how we see our world. We see what we want to see.  What we expect to see. And we cover over what we dislike.

Can I accept that I might not see things as they really are?

Makes me wonder how God sees the same thing?
