In Jesus day the religious leadership opposed him at every turn. We seldom see it that way but it seems to me that Satan was using the religious group that should have been supporting Jesus to oppose him. They ultimately were the ones who had the government kill him. Religion and Government joined to have Jesus crucified.
In Germany during Hitler’s rise to power, it was the Church that Hitler used to gain support. There were very few who opposed the Church from becoming the tool of Hitler. Those within the church who resisted Hitler ended up in the extermination camps. Bonhoeffer is the best known of those although there were many Catholic priests.
In the Americas when Church and Govt teamed up we saw the extermination of entire peoples in the southern hemisphere.
In the Middle Ages when Church and government combined we had the Crusades and the Inquisition.
At other times when Church and Government have been identified together we have seen intolerance, persecution and bloodshed even wars—all in the name of God.
When that option was offered to Jesus he rejected it.
Until Jesus returns the Kingdom of Man cannot become the Kingdom of God. Don’t try to mix them before his return. That will be His job. He can handle it.
Right now you just be a good citizen. Vote, be involved in politics but don’t confuse the church and the government.
