Does the Holy Spirit Guide People in the Wrong Direction?

Is it possible to be Christian and be Wrong?

Does the Holy Spirit Guide People in the Wrong Direction?

There seems to be a certain arrogance among some Christian leaders and pastors that because of their positions and supposed closeness to God their attitudes and pronouncements are always correct. We have seen in recent days how national religious leaders have made public announcements about another leaders Salvation. Or, about another group’s theology and so on. It is not uncommon.

Regular Christians can get in the same trap. I mean how often have you heard someone say, well “I prayed about it”. Or “Jesus told me” or “Jesus revealed to me”…….. As if that ends all discussion. Their thoughts are identical to Gods?

Now, I have had what I felt were revelations from God. I wish I had more. Most often they were about changes I should make in my own life rather than directed to other people. Never had one about politics (although I try to make decisions about politics in keeping with my faith and vote for those I feel best represent those values. However, I do not feel that I should tell others how God wants them to vote.)

Just because I follow Jesus does not mean that every thought I have comes from him. Satan is the Father of lies.

One whole book in the New Testament (Galatians) was written to followers of Jesus who had gotten off track and were going in the wrong direction.”

You are following a different way that pretends to be the Good News but is not the Good News at all. You are being fooled. Galatians 1:6-7 NLT

These were a people who started out well but then went off the main road and got on a detour that was not heading in the right direction. They were listening to people who spoke with authority but were dead wrong. Was the Holy Spirit wrong? NO! Their interpretation of what he was saying was wrong.

Look back at Church history and see how many times we got off track. How many times have you seen churches vote 100% that they feel, led by the Holy Spirit  that a particular person should be pastor of their church. Six months later they want to fire him. Something is wrong.

That should remind us that We are human. Those we listen to are human. Humanity equates to fallible. You/they may be wrong and probably are about some things.

Hear with discernment.

Remember they may be wrong.

Remember you may be wrong.
