JESUS IS LORD?

JESUS IS LORD

As a follower of Jesus there are a number of things I believe.  Basic to all of those is the ancient statement, “Jesus is Lord.“That was a basic belief—statement of early Believers. It recognized Jesus as the creator who lived as a man, was crucified for our sins and conquered death through the resurrection. He is therefore ruler of our created order. It also implied, if Jesus is Lord, the Roman Emperor is not. That was considered a traitorous statement and those who made it put their lives at risk

Today Jesus is Lord is still our basic belief statement. It would imply that culture, even Christian culture, is not the most influential element in our life.

We often say Jesus is Lord or it’s equivalent. Especially when we are among other believers. The question is, Do we believe it?

Dallas Willard is reported as saying. “We don’t believe something by merely saying we believe it, or even when we believe that we believe it. We believe something when we act as if it were true.” I think that is what Jesus and the Bible has in mind when it talks about belief. What should be meant when we say, we believe in Jesus.

Do we live out our Sunday praise songs during the week?

If Jesus is Lord do we follow his Command to love others ——even our enemies?

If Jesus is Lord do we follow him in caring for the weak, helpless and dispossessed?

Do we bring light to the darkness or cover it under the baskets of religion, Church, our Bible Studies and small groups?

We preach about taking up our cross. How many actually are cross-bearers?

Does our submission to our culture, our political party, even our church impinge on our loyalty to Lord Jesus?
