Things to do, places to go.
If you’re like many people as you grew up and into adulthood, you had many dreams about your future. Things you wanted to accomplish. Adventures you wanted to go on. Back in the day, we said, Things to do. Places to go.
My list was quite long. Many I accomplished. Most are unfulfilled. Some are only vaguely remembered. Others I am sure are forgotten.
Recently I went to the Birthday Party of a man who had a lot of dreams and had accomplished many of them. He had hiked the entire Appalachian Trail. Biked from coast to coast and numerous other feats.
The difference between us? He acted on his dreams, and they became accomplishments. Mine remained dreams. Many are still there but now, because of age and health, I can no longer do them.
In my mid 70’s one of the items on my dream list came to mind and opportunity. We were at a silent auction fundraiser for Teen/Adult Challenge when I saw two skydiving trips being auctioned. I bid on them and won one. With a lot of trepidation, I made an appointment. The whole family and even some friends and neighbors went. The only problem was they almost couldn’t get me on the plane because of my size and stiffness. Then high in the sky, it was a real squeeze to get me through the small door. We made it but age and size made it much more difficult.
I guess advice from an old man would be to dream. But then change those dreams into reality while you have the energy, mentality, and strength to do them. If there is something in life you want to do, make plans and do it.
The years will sneak up on you. Before you know it, you may no longer be physically able or have the energy to do it. You missed your opportunity.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 – 2 For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die
Things to do? Places to go? Get started while you can before you can’t.
