I Can Do It Myself!
We thoroughly enjoy our five-year-old Great-granddaughter, although she does have a mind of her own. That often shows in her response, “I can do it myself”. That is when she takes charge and attempts and often succeeds in doing it herself with no help. She is persistent. She is learning.
However, on occasion, she will admit she needs “a little help.” More often than not the “help” is there and ready to guide and assist her. The task is accomplished. Parents, Grandparents, Great-grandparents, and other adults are there to guide and assist kids in their development, helping them grow into maturity and attain skills needed for life.
Jesus spent several years helping, guiding, and developing his followers. Near the end of his time with them, he told them he would be leaving them but that he would send a Helper—the Holy Spirit. The Helper would teach them all things—new lessons. The Helper would guide them to the task God wanted to be done and provide the expertise to accomplish the task.
They were able to access this help by asking through prayer.
One of the problems I often had was I seldom asked for help. Oh, I did the usual “Lord bless this” but I didn’t choose tasks that were way beyond our resources. I chose tasks that I felt I could do and we had resources. I often choose the task according to my own abilities. I wonder how much time and energy I wasted, determined that I could “do it” while focused on jobs that were humanly achievable or on God-assigned tasks that needed supernatural energy and failing when my Helper was standing close by waiting on me to say, “I could use a little help here”.
Sometimes the People of God do not display the Power of God because they think they can do it by themselves. They only pick tasks they can handle. They do not let the Holy Spirit lead them into God-sized tasks that only he can accomplish
Show the world what God can do. Let him guide you to his task. Then ask him for help. You will need it. He will provide it.
