Sunday Lines
As I went into the lobby at church last Sunday, it was between the two services, so the area was crowded, but I noticed several things.
First, coffee and donuts were being served. (You can see where my interest lies.) There was a line of people there. There was no banner. Evidently none was needed as I had to wait in line to get my coffee.
Second, there was a long table with a number of workers and sign-up sheets under the banner Small Groups. Looking it over, I saw numerous possibilities for discussion/study groups on a variety of subjects. There must have been close to 10 choices. There were quite a few people signing up, but not as many as those in the coffee and donut line
Next, on the other side of the entrance I noticed a single desk and one person under the banner Serve. On their sign-up sheet was a page of ministry positions that needed volunteers. It went from singing on the worship team to keeping babies in the nursery, to volunteering at the local homeless shelter.
The Study Group table was quite busy. The Serve table looked lonesome.
Does that mean more people are interested in their own comfort: donuts and coffee? Or studying about Jesus rather than Taking Up Their Cross and Following Him in service and ministry?
Makes you think: Which line would Jesus have been in? Which line were you in?
P.S. Barbara signed up to work in the nursery. Me? I got a donut!
